Ling developed a massage to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and increased range of motion, by using firm but gentle strokes of pressure on the body. To create this massage technique he created five individual constant repeatable actions that when put in tandem would create the perfect state of relaxation. To explain Swedish massage more thoroughly we should describe each of its parts, which are the basis for most massage.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE: This massage is both corrective and therapeutic. It is derived from the Swedish massage, but the strokes are deeper, harder, slower, and against the grain of the muscles. Deep tissue massage, concentrates on the chronic muscles that are overstressed all the time i.e. neck, back, low back, etc... When this stress happens, the muscle fibers stick together, causing inflammation and after time a knot forms. My job will be to identify the knots and press on them, using fingers, knuckles, and elbows to release built-up lactic acid that created a lack of oxygen, nutrients, and circulation to the muscle bundle. Because of this type of concentrated pressure, you may feel a little pain during the massage and may be sore for the next day or two. You should feel great after that, but drinking water is the key to a speedy recovery to aid in flushing out the toxins released from the deep tissue massage. HOT STONE MASSAGE: A very soothing massage during which the therapist heats up basalt rocks, a specialty stone used to absorb heat up to a range of 130 to 145 degrees. They are placed on the body in specific places along the chakra lines, or pressed into stressed areas of the body. Oil is used to help slide and press heated rocks into desired areas creating the same effect as a deep tissue massage. The healing touch of heat will deeply penetrate to the source of the pain. The therapist should remind you that if at anytime during the massage you find the stone too hot, you should immediately ask the therapist to remove the rock. This massage is one of the most relaxing. (Available only in Studio). PRENATAL MASSAGE: Pregnancy can be tough on a woman's body. As the baby grows pelvic muscles are pushed to their limit. The pelvis is forced forward, resulting in constant pain in the low back area. In this massage, a side-lying technique is employed, to prevent pressure on the belly and pelvis. In this position, a pillow would be placed in between the knees and a larger pillow would be used to hold onto for leverage, opening the back up for wider coverage. Strict draping is used to maintain modesty. This light massage is found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs and relieve aches and pains in the joints and muscles. Most of my pregnant clients love prenatal massage because it is a healthy, chemical free alternative to pain relief. You must be past thirteen weeks into your pregnancy to be a candidate for this massage. ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE: This James Waslaski technique, "Orthopedic massage, involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of locomotor soft tissues to reduce or eliminate pain and dysfunction. A unique multidisciplinary approach is utilized to restore structural balance throughout the body which will allow you to focus on the prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions, chronic pain and sports injuries." I incorporate this pain free technique in most of my massages where I see the need. Whether it be impinged joints, hurt shoulders, muscle tears or other muscular issues. I will give you exercises to work on before you leave to help you be a part of your own recovery. I've had many clients say the pain relief this type of massage can give feels like a miracle. RAIN DROP THERAPY: This massage is a form of enhanced aromatherapy. In Rain Drop Therapy a specific combination of essential oils, oil blends and massage oils are utilized.
The combination of these essential oils, in this order, along with specialized massage techniques creates a thermodynamic and invigorating massage that deeply penetrates muscles with great ease. AROMATHERAPY: The use of volatile plant oils including essential oils can make the magic of massage even more relaxing and pleasurable. I employ a wide variety of essential oils to create a perfect relaxing scent and add even more soothing relief to your great massage. Glenn Franklin |
